Sali in her groove

On a hot summer night, Salimeh Taeb is picking out an outfit that will show off her sexy figure while providing enough comfort to move freely when hitting the dance floor with some hot salsa moves.
“This one”. She find a cotton string red dress that is tight fitting at the top and wavy enough at the bottom allowing for multiple spins.

Salimeh was first introduced to salsa four years ago. “The first lesson was awful” she says. “It was hard to follow the instructor with so many people in the room”. Eager to dance, she decided to learn salsa on her own by going to nightclubs in Toronto such as Babaluu, Six Degrees and Dovercourt House. Pretty soon she was dancing three nights a week. Now, she is up to four to five times a week.

“I love it. It’s one of the best feelings in the world. And it helps me stay in shape.”

Salimeh admits to being a food lover. “I hate to deprive myself. Instead I eat whatever I want knowing that I will be out later burning it off on the dance floor.”

A night out of salsa dancing can burn anywhere between 500-1000 calories. “Each song you change partners, so you are always doing different moves. You end up having so much fun and before you know it, 3 hours have passed.” Salsa is a great cardio workout. There is a lot of hip movement which works your stomach and nicely shapes your oblique muscles. On top of that, your legs get a killer workout.

Overall salsa burns tons of calories and helps with weight loss. “I noticed that salsa helps me stay lean without making my muscles gain any bulk” says Salimeh. Is she going to keep on dancing five times a week? “Yes” she says. “As long as my legs can handle it.”
